With the last of the instruments packed in and the Crew from the Royal Dutch Airforce Band on the road again to their following concert and the lights out in the gymnasium I reflect back on what was an absolutely phenomenal concert. Since the very first YMSTW the enthusiasm has grown to what we witnessed here on Thursday. 

The Young Musicians Spread their Wings “fever” has taken over for the fifth year in a row. For the musicians taking part for the first time and for those for whom this was the fifth time, the Wings “fever” is the same. 

It is always very heartwarming to see and feel the enormous spontaneous wave of enthusiasm which takes place in the weeks before the concert.  The surprise and awe on the faces of the musicians’ friends and family when they enter the gymnasium just before the concert, and the total excitement with which the gym is buzzing when the concert is over. 

Maarten had once again pulled off a miracle, a miracle that will live on in the hearts and memories of literally hundreds of people for the rest of their lives. His inspiration and passion has given all of us a gift of friendship and music which will play on endlessly. Congratulations Maarten, and all of those who helped make this a wonderfully successful day.
